Hot SourceThe Kebbi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has disassociated itself from the protest reportedly organised by Omoyele Sowore, to demand the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement on Monday, the state chairman of the council, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Khalifa, said youths in Kebbi would not participate in the protest, which he described as unnecessary since Kanu’s case is still before the court.
“Our state, Kebbi, is peaceful, and we intend to maintain the existing peace. We are not part of any protest that could lead to unrest,” Khalifa said.
He advised youths in the state to resist any attempt by what he called “agents of destabilisation” to involve them in the demonstration, warning that no meaningful development could be achieved in a tense atmosphere.
Khalifa urged Kebbi youths to focus their energy on productive ventures and support ongoing government efforts aimed at improving their welfare.
He further noted that all youth organisations affiliated with the NYCN in Kebbi have agreed not to take part in the protest, maintaining that the judiciary should be allowed to handle Kanu’s case without interference.
