Angry youths from the Odo-Ape community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State have blocked a federal highway to protest escalating insecurity following the killing of two individuals by suspected gunmen.

Naija News gathered that the tragic incident occurred when gunmen ambushed and shot two farmers in Odo-Ape.

According to Vanguard, a resident who spoke anonymously said, “The gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, gunned down one Tiv man popularly called Mr Black, who was moving his farm produce to the market in preparation for today’s business.

“Unfortunately, he could not stop when the gunmen tried to stop him by force, hence they opened fire, killing him on the spot.”

The second victim, identified as Sunday Aiyedero, was working on a nearby farm when the assailants spotted him and fatally shot him.

The resident described the situation as dire and urged the state government and security agencies to address the alarming rise in insecurity. “We can no longer sleep with our eyes closed,” he lamented.

Protest and Demands

Outraged by these killings, the youth of the community staged a protest the following morning, blocking the highway that passes through the area.

They demanded immediate intervention from the federal government, accusing the state authorities of failing to respond to their repeated calls for action.

The protesters pointed out that the community had suffered relentless kidnappings in recent months, with at least seven people abducted in the last three months.

The residents are calling on the federal government to address the deteriorating security situation and put an end to the cycle of killings and abductions that have left them living in fear.
