The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has decried the continuous silence of the Nigerian government on the recent happening in Venezuela.
Speaking during an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST on Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Nigeria’s silence on the issue, which has prompted reactions from other African countries, is quite embarrassing.
He said Nigeria has lost its stand as a leading voice in the West African sub-region and African continent entirely.
DAILY POST reports that on Saturday President Donald Trump of the United States announced the capture of the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
“Nigeria is nowhere to be found. Nigeria has not said anything. Where is our President (Bola Tinubu), what is he saying about this?
“This is Nigeria that we are talking about for God’s sake. This is Nigeria where its leader stand on a one stage and take clear positions on issues.
“Now what happens last Saturday is one of the most defining moments in international politics. The one that has serious implications for global word order since perhaps in the second world war.
“What we are saying is that other countries in the West African sub-region come out to say this is our position and most of them are  objecting to what happened in Venezuela.
“It doesn’t matter. Nigeria could say we see it differently and we are supporting it or we agree with what other people are saying or we don’t agree. But what are we seeing? Nigeria is nowhere to be found. Nigeria has not said anything. If that does not embarrass you as a citizen it embarrasses us.
“The stand of Nigeria on the international stage is an anomaly, embarrassment and not befitting if a country like ours that is a leader or that should ordinarily be a leader of the African continent,” he said.
