Using mobile phones near petroleum tankers can trigger explosion – APC chieftain warns Nigerians

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Nurain Abayomi Mumuni has advised Nigerians to avoid using mobile phones near fuel tankers.

Mumuni noted that the use of mobile phones near fuel tankers can trigger explosion.

The APC chieftain said this while extending condolences to Governor Umaru Bago and the people of Niger State over the death of 73 residents who lost their lives in the petroleum tanker explosion that occurred at the weekend.

DAILY POST reports that 73 persons were confirmed dead following the tragic tanker explosion that occurred at the Dikko Junction, Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, Niger State, on Saturday.

In his reaction, Mumuni, advised Nigerians to avoid using mobile phones near fuel tankers, saying it can potentially trigger explosions if they are used in a way that creates a spark.

The APC chieftain in a statement signed by his Media Aide, Rasheed Abubakar and made available to DAILY POST on Monday said that addressing literacy and awareness regarding fuel tanker safety is crucial to preventing explosions in the country.

He advised Nigerians to report to local authorities if they observe a fuel tanker leaking or parked in an unsafe location.

He used the opportunity to sympathise with the governor and the people of the state over the death of the 73 people.

“My condolences go to the executive governor of Niger State Bago and victims of the Fuel tanker explosion. Addressing literacy and awareness regarding fuel tanker safety is crucial to preventing explosions in Nigeria.

“If you observe a fuel tanker leaking or parked in an unsafe location, report it to local authorities immediately. Never conduct welding, cutting, or any activities that produce sparks near fuel tankers to prevent ignition.

“Always keep a safe distance from fuel tankers, especially during loading and unloading operations. Educate Children. Teach children about the dangers of fuel tankers. Ensure they know to stay clear of these vehicles and report any issues to an adult.

“Avoid using mobile phones near fuel tankers, as they can potentially cause static electricity, leading to explosions. Community Awareness Programs: Participate in local workshops or forums discussing fuel safety and proper handling of hazardous materials.

“Learn about the flammable nature of fuels carried by tankers and the conditions that can lead to accidents. By disseminating these statements, the aim is to foster a culture of safety and awareness that can help mitigate the risks posed by fuel tanker operations in Nigeria”.

Promote Religious Harmony, Ndume Urges Faith Leaders As COCIN President Mohzo Wins Re-Election

    Sunday Aborisade in Abuja

A former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, has called on religious leaders across the country to intensify efforts in promoting interfaith understanding and national unity.

He warned against external forces attempting to sow division among Nigerians in the name of religion.

Ndume made the call in his congratulatory message to Rev. Amos Musa Mohzo, who was re-elected last week as President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) for another four-year term.

The Borno South lawmaker described Mohzo’s re-election as a testimony to his humility, diligence and exemplary leadership within the Christian community.

He noted that his wealth of experience in managing diversity would be invaluable in strengthening peace across Nigeria.

“At this critical moment in our national life, when some external forces are trying to promote false narratives to instigate religious crises, your experience and that of other faith leaders will be crucial in fostering harmony,” Ndume said.

He urged the COCIN President and other faith-based leaders to use their platforms to support government efforts aimed at building trust and mutual respect among Nigerians of different religious persuasions.

Ndume also praised Mohzo’s steady rise through the ranks of the church, from teacher to deputy general secretary, general secretary, vice-president and president.

Ndume described Mohzo as “a humble, God-fearing leader and an asset to the Gwoza community and the nation at large”.

He said: “Your unassuming disposition gives credence to the saying that ‘he who humbles himself will be exalted’. I am confident that your renewed mandate will further advance peace and unity within and beyond the church.”
