Ukachukwu meets Anambra APC excos, declares interest to run for governor

Former member representing Abuja Municipality in the House of Representatives, Nicholas Ukachukwu, on Wednesday met with the executive members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Anambra State.

The former lawmaker had earlier in the week registered in his ward, Orsumenyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area as a member of the APC.

While presenting himself to the executives, Ukachukwu said noted that his intentions to contest in the Anambra guber race in November, were no longer a rumour

He said, “I am here so that you can hear from the horses mouth that I am contesting for the position of governor of Anambra State.

“I have been to my ward, my local government area, my zone to tell the executive that I’m vying for governor, and now I’m here to tell the state executive the same thing.

“Truly truly, I’m contesting for governor. I’m someone who loves party loyalty. I have been supporting the party even before I declared interest to contest. I want to tell you all that what APC needs is a candidate that is very well recognized in every part of the state. You need someone who you can trust with power, and I’m that man.

“My brother (Ifeanyi) Ubah was already on this journey (governorship bid), he first met me to run for governor, he said he would not like to contest against me because of my contribution to his election into Senate. He told me he had made some investments to run, but if I’m running, he will not run. But I told him since he had made such investments, let him continue and I will not run against him.

“Now that he is no more, I have decided to run. I want to complete what my younger brother started.”

Speaking on President Bola Tinubu’s performance, Ukachukwu said: “Tinubu is a shrewd businessman, and he is running Nigeria like a business. He is putting investments in the right direction, it may not be beneficial now but in due turn it will be.

“It is like a farmer who planted yams and has no food to eat in the mean time, that does not mean that he is poor, but he is hoping that in the next harvest season, there will be plenty of food. After all these investments that Tinubu is making, there will be abundance in the future.

“It is the same way want to run Anambra like a business. We have other aspirants, there are all worthy sons of Anambra, but I want to beg you to trust me with your votes and I will not disappoint.”

He assured members of the party that he was fully prepared for the contest and will put in anything that can help ensure that APC forms the next government of the state. He also assured that he would do one term to complete the eight-year term of the Anambra South zone.

He added that the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has only been succeeding in winning election in the state because of infighting members of major opposition in the state, assuring that if the APC came together, it would root out APGA.
