The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Governing Council has appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto to act as head of the university in an interim capacity.
A notice issued by the Council Secretariat and signed by Registrar and Secretary to Council, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq., announced that the decision followed an emergency meeting held on Tuesday, 24 September 2025. The meeting was convened to address directives received from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
“In accordance with the directives, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto, is to act in the interim,” the statement said.
The Governing Council assured staff, students, and stakeholders that the university remains stable. “Academic and administrative activities continue without disruption,” the notice added.
The statement, copied to the Chancellor, Chairman of Council, Director-General of GTEC, and the Acting Director of Public Affairs, underscored the Council’s commitment to maintaining smooth operations while the interim arrangement is in place.
This decision ensures that academic programmes and administrative functions proceed seamlessly as the university works with GTEC to finalise its next steps in leadership transition.
