A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaduna State, Malam Adamu Kabiru, has observed that the recent proclamation of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ by United States President, Donald Trump, is the only way to force the Nigerian government to do the needful by addressing the security challenges in the country.
Speaking to DAILY POST in Kaduna on Tuesday, Kabiru lamented that over the years many innocent souls have been wasted and valuable properties destroyed all in the name of insurgency without any concrete steps taken by past and present administrations to curb the menace.
He said, “It is true that many lives both Christians and Muslims have been killed for no just cause and no government has deemed it fit to take decisive steps to genuinely address the situation.
“Our people are left alone to carry their cross while our politicians enjoy their lives with their families.
“It is also true that the Christians felt that those killing them come in the name of Islam. They (Christians) have no one to help them even when the government has done nothing to come to their aid than to cry out and their cry has attracted foreigners’ attention that the country is now being viewed as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ by the United States of America’s President.
“If this is the only to make our leaders sit up and address the situation for the benefit of all, the better. The killings have seriously affected the people of Plateau, Benue, Southern Kaduna and other minorities that are Christians. It is their absolute right to cry out with the hope of getting help somewhere which the President of America, Donald Trump, has issued a threat for the Tinubu to take action to address insecurity or face the wrath of America’s might.”
He added, “There is no hiding the truth that Nigerians for over two decades have had their shares of shameless killings by Islamic extremists or Fulanis who have no concrete reason for such actions.
“Many lives have been lost and property destroyed. While the Muslims decided to keep quiet, the Christians on the other hand have shouted repeatedly and have attracted foreign attention which many Nigerians are condemning.”
Kabiru explained that time has come for Nigerians to unite against enemies who believe in killing, noting that there is no reason of taking such action against fellow human beings.
