Troops repel ISWAP terrorists’ attacks in Borno (Video)

Troops of the Nigerian Army under the Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Bita and Damasak communities in Borno State.

The Army, in a statement on its official X handle on Friday, said the troops launched simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, neutralizing over 60 terrorists in the process.

“In a decisive and coordinated operation, gallant troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched a simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, Borno State, in the early hours of today. The intense battle resulted in the neutralization of at least 60 terrorists,” the statement said.

On the Damasak front, anti-insurgency and security expert, Zagazola Makama also reported that the Nigerian troops recorded similar successes.

In a post accompanied by a video he shared on his X handle, Makama wrote:

“Nigerian troops stationed in Damasak successfully repelled a coordinated attack by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) late yesterday evening, military sources have confirmed.

“It was learnt that the attempted assault on the military positions occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. (2100hrs), when suspected ISWAP insurgents launched a surprise offensive on the town, located near the Nigerian border with Niger Republic.

“The attackers, reportedly in large numbers and heavily armed, were met with fierce resistance from the troops on ground.

“According to initial field reports, the soldiers engaged the terrorists in a prolonged firefight, effectively thwarting the attack and forcing the insurgents to retreat with casualties.

“Military officials praised the vigilance and swift response of the personnel involved, noting that their efforts prevented what could have been a significant security breach in the strategic northeastern town.

“Damasak, a key location in Borno State, has remained a target for ISWAP due to its proximity to international borders and humanitarian hubs.

“The Nigerian Army has stepped up its operations in the region in recent days, aiming to curtail the movement and influence of terrorist groups.”
