Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE, OPWS, have neutralized two terrorists and recovered weapons in Taraba State.

The feat according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 3 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, was achieved during a counter-terrorism operation in Takum LGA of the state.

“The mission was carried out under the ongoing Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA, aimed at eradicating criminal and terrorist activities in the region,” the statement said.

The operation was launched on September 15 following credible intelligence about a planned attack on the Chanchanji community by members of the Bojo terrorist group.

“Troops were swiftly deployed and engaged the terrorists in a firefight along the Demeva–Chanchanji road, resulting in the death of one terrorist and the retreat of the remaining assailants,” the statement added.

A subsequent pursuit operation was said to have led the troops to the Demeva–Gbudu axis, believed to be a planned escape route into the Ananum community in Donga council of Taraba. There, the troops engaged the hoodlums in another exchange of gunfire, neutralizing another terrorist.

Items recovered from the two operations include one G3 rifle, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one motorcycle

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commanded the troops for their bravery and professionalism.

He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to sustained offensive operations against criminal elements threatening the peace and security of Taraba State.

General Uwa also called on residents to remain vigilant and to provide timely, actionable intelligence to security agencies, emphasizing the importance of civilian cooperation in achieving lasting peace in the area.
