Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have neutralised five suspected insurgents and rescued abducted children during separate operations in Borno and Yobe states.
The operations, conducted between February 20 and 21, were disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Sani Uba.
According to the statement, troops under Sector 1 engaged suspected JAS/ISWAP fighters during a fighting patrol around Sabsawa village in Borno State.
The troops reportedly overpowered the insurgents, killing five of them, while others fled.
In a separate operation at Ngurosoye village in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, troops rescued three children Abba Abba, Fatima Abba, and Aisha Abba, during a perimeter patrol.
Preliminary findings indicated that the children were abducted about two months ago along the Gubio axis before being moved to Bula-Daloye.
The rescued children have been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further action.
The statement also confirmed the surrender of an 18-year-old suspect, Abubakar Abubakar, in Geidam, Yobe State. He is currently in custody for profiling.
The military said troops across various sectors of Operation HADIN KAI have continued offensive and stabilisation operations in collaboration with local security groups to curtail insurgent activities in the North-East.
