Troops, fighter jets, foil terrorist attack on Yobe military base

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, supported by fighter jets from the Air Component, have foiled an attack by terrorists on a military base in Goniri, Yobe State.

Details of the incident were contained in a post shared on X on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited security sources.

According to the report, the attack occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on Monday when insurgents attempted to overrun the position of the 120 Battalion under Sector 2 in Goniri.

Makama said the terrorists infiltrated the military location and engaged troops in a heavy gun battle after breaching the defensive perimeter.

The troops on ground reportedly sent a distress call, prompting a swift response from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.

“Upon receiving the distress call from troops on ground, the Air Component immediately scrambled fighter aircraft to provide close air support,” Makama wrote.

“The fighter jets quickly located the insurgents around the area and carried out targeted air strikes on their positions.”

According to the sources quotedby Makama, the aircraft dropped two bombs on the terrorists’ locations with precision, killing several of them.

“The fighter jets released two bombs on the insurgents’ positions with devastating accuracy, resulting in the elimination of at least 10 terrorists who were trying to flee after sighting the aircraft,” the source added.

Security sources noted that the quick intervention by the Air Component disrupted the attack and helped the troops regain control of the situation.

“The prompt response of the Air Component significantly disrupted the terrorists’ attack and restored tactical advantage to our troops on ground,” Makama wrote.
