Three individuals have been remanded into police custody by the Fiapre Circuit Court over the disappearance of a service pistol assigned to the security unit of the Ahafo Newmont Mines at Ntotroso near Kenyase in the Ahafo Region.
According to a statement issued by the Bono Regional Police Command and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Beretta service pistol, identified as GHGP/NHQ/CTD/H78688Z13, was reported missing on 13 January 2025.
Following months of intelligence gathering and surveillance, police picked up the suspects on 12 November 2025.
The suspects are Joseph Blackige, 25; Kwabena Dodzi, 44; Adu Yeboah Abraham, also known as Okwaraji, 46; and 18-year-old Priscilla Awuni.
Police indicated that an intelligence-led operation by the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) first led officers to Ntotroso, where Blackige and Awuni were arrested.
Although a search in Blackige’s room did not reveal the missing pistol, investigators say he admitted during interrogation that he had handed the weapon over to Dodzi.
This confession redirected police operations to the residence of Abraham. A search there uncovered six BB cartridges, suspected gunpowder, and GHC28,844.00 in cash. These items were seized and are being held as exhibits.
All four suspects were subsequently brought before the Fiapre Circuit Court on provisional charges of stealing and possession of stolen property.
Presiding judge, Her Worship Mrs Akua Adoma Addae, granted Priscilla Awuni police enquiry bail to support ongoing investigations.
The remaining three — Blackige, Dodzi and Abraham — were remanded into custody and are expected to return to court on 28 November 2025.
The Bono Regional Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to protect state weapons and ensure that individuals implicated in such offences “face the full rigours of the law.”
