Taraba Councillors Set To Impeach LG Boss

The legislative council of Takum local government area of Taraba state has set up a five member panel to investigate impeachment offences earlier labeled against the executive chairman of the council Hon. John Ali.

The 5 member panel was constituted on Thursday after deliberations by the legislative council over the impeachment notice which was served on the council boss two weeks ago.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP on the development, the leader of the legislative council Hon. James Ugo confirm the impeachment notice and the constitution of the five member panel to impeach Ali as the chairman of Takum local government council.

Ugo, while speaking with our correspondent, also confirmed that all the 11 members that form the Takum local government legislative council have signed the impeachment notice to remove the council chairman.

The council leader pointed that offences contained in the impeachment notice against the chairman includes, the chairman’s high handedness on both the legislative members and staff of the council, lack of transparency with internal generated revenue of the local government, running affairs of the council as personal properties.

“We served the chairman, Takum local government council with the impeachment notice since on the 23rd December 2024, all the 11 members that make up the legislative council are signatory to the impeachment, we have waited for his response up till today in vain, that is why we decided to comply with the available constitution that empowers us as members of the legislative council by setting up the 5 member panel.

“The 5 members are going to carry out their constitutional duties, if he is found guilty of the offences, we will go ahead and impeach him, we are working with the available constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria which I believe nobody is above. Ugo stated.

All calls and messages put to Hon. John Ali, the chairman Takum local government council to confirm if he was served with the impeachment notice proved abortive as the chairman did not answer the calls nor reply to the messages sent to him by our correspondent to his phone.
