Unknown militia have killed residents of Rafin-Kada in Wukari and Mayo-Sabere in Mai-Idanu ward of Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Both attacks which occurred on Wednesday have raised palpable tensions in the community at the time of filing this report.

Those killed in Gashak are 70-year-old Mallam Adamu Yahya, who is survived by two wives, 15 children, and seven grandchildren. Others are Abdu Yahya, 52 and 42-years-old Nuhu Yahya,

Though the identities of the murdered farmers in Wukari could not be ascertained, our correspondent however gathered that they were separately murdered while tilling their farmlands.

Confirming the incident that occurred in Wukari, the council chairman, Ismaila Dauda, blamed the Tiv militias for the killings.

“Two persons were indeed killed while working in their farms by Tivs militias. I pray God Almighty will grant them eternal rest and comfort us all in Jesus’ name.” the chairman lamented.

Commenting on efforts being put in place to prevent reprisal attacks, he called on the youths of the council to eschew acts capable of igniting crisis in the area.

“May I seize this opportunity to appeal to all the good people of Wukari not to take laws into their hands and allow the security agencies to investigate this issue and come up with their findings.

“On the killings in Gashaka, our various sources blamed the rangers in Gumpti National Park for the killings which they said also left several others with various degrees of injuries.

Some prominent persons from the council who also spoke with our state correspondent via telephone urged the state government to rise to the occasion by tracking down those behind the killings.

Confirming the two separate killings, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Gambo Kwache, said, “It was confirmed that two persons were killed in Wukari and three in Gashaka.

“The cases are still under investigation and efforts are on top gear to apprehend the culprits,” he said
