Suspected gunmen kill retired soldier in Benue

A retired army officer has been shot dead in a suspected armed bandit attack in Benue State.
The incident was disclosed in a post shared on X on Monday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the attack occurred on Sunday at about 5:00 p.m. in Anem Village, Ikyurav-Ya, Kwande Local Government Area of the state.

The victim was identified as Sgt. Chiayongo Jem’m, who was reportedly targeted by suspected bandits.

Makama said the body of the deceased was removed by his family and taken to an unidentified mortuary in Ikyogen.

Following the attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Jato-Aka was said to have mobilised a joint patrol team to the area to track the attackers.

The post added that operatives are combing nearby bushes in search of the suspects, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the investigation.
