Gunmen have killed a prominent politician in Zamfara State.
The victim, Alhaji Umar S. Fada Moriki, was one of the well-known political figures in the state.
Reports say the attack happened on Saturday morning along the Gusau-Tsafe highway while he was travelling from Gusau to Kaduna.
In a statement issued by the Zamfara State chapter of the APC, signed by the party’s publicity secretary, Yusuf Idris, the party said the late politician was killed shortly after attending a stakeholders’ meeting led by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle.
The 62-year-old had previously served as the vice chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, a director in a government agency, and later as a special assistant to the governor on rural electrification.
During the 2023 elections, he contested for the House of Representatives seat for Zurmi and Shinkafi federal constituency.
