‘She Should Be Arrested’ – Lagos Teacher Caught On Video Assaulting 3-Year-Old Pupil Sparks Public Outcry

A disturbing video showing a teacher repeatedly slapping a three-year-old pupil at Christ-Mitots School, Isawo Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, has ignited widespread outrage and calls for her arrest.

The two-minute footage, which emerged on Wednesday, captures the teacher striking the toddler five times during a lesson on writing numbers in the 60s.

The child, whose identity remains undisclosed for protection, was subjected to physical punishment as the teacher attempted to instruct them on writing the numbers 61 and 62.

In the video, the teacher instructs the pupil to write the numbers 61 and 62 but accompanies her guidance with repeated slaps.

It is like this. Write,” she says while hitting the child.

Write six for me. Write. Six. Six,” she continues, before striking the child again.

Like this, six like this. Like this. Now your one. Six. One. Sixty-one. Write.”

Despite the child’s apparent struggle, the teacher continues to slap and chastise, saying, “Six, it is like this. Like this. Your two… Six. Two. Sixty-two. Write. Like this… Like this, that is six.”

The video has drawn widespread condemnation from Nigerians, with many demanding immediate legal action against the teacher and heightened scrutiny of disciplinary practices in schools.

The incident has reignited conversations about child abuse and the need for stricter enforcement of laws protecting minors.

@AyodeleToyota wrote: “She should be arrested with the person who made the video.”

@still_Ayoola wrote: “The boy is brilliant and kudos to the teacher for doing wonderful job. Although I agree that the slap is deep but it really help the boy to grab what the teacher was teaching him. Don’t condemned that woman totally, rather applaud her and correct her.”

@TheRealA_J wrote: “I couldn’t watch the video to the end. If the child is 3 years old, then her teaching methodology is bad. You can’t be teaching a 3 years old pupil that way…..If you have to teach them how to form numbers, use what they are familiar with eg curve, stroke etc.”

@Dambatta_1 wrote: “If that kid should be mine, I’m not involving any Police, I’ll make sure the teacher spends at least one week in hospital.”

@bishop_zaddy wrote: “The person that made this video, the guy close to her should spend atleast 5yrs in prison for allowing this, the kids in this very school are used to this else others won’t act like nothing is happening, while that very woman should not just go to jail but also with her Husband.”

@Mazimum_ wrote: “This only made it online because it was captured—imagine the countless abuses that go unnoticed. A 3-year-old, slapped hard over writing “62”? This child will fear school, learning, and authority for life.

“How many children are silently suffering in the hands of monsters posing as teachers? We must act now, or we fail the very future we claim to protect.”

@Masqualinkus wrote: “This is disheartening to say the least, I stopped watching after the second slap! This boy, 3 years old, could be having a difficult time in learning some simple things like my son. All these unqualified teachers. She should be arrested immediately.”
