Several feared dead as pit collapses in Kano village

A tragic incident has been reported in Ridawa village, located in Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State, where several brick workers are feared dead after a pit suddenly collapsed.

The accident occurred early Wednesday morning while the workers were digging soil for brick-making. Reports indicate that the workers were inside the pit when it gave way, trapping many of them underground.

There are serious concerns that some of the trapped workers may have lost their lives, while others sustained injuries of varying severity.

Rescue efforts commenced shortly after the collapse, with residents and emergency responders working together to reach those still buried.

However, as of the time this report was filed, some victims had not yet been rescued, raising fears over their chances of survival.

The lawmaker representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency, Sani Bala, confirmed the incident. He stated that about 10 people were believed to be trapped and called on the government to act urgently to support rescue operations and prevent further deaths.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency had not yet received any official report about the incident.
He added: “Once they get more information, they will respond accordingly.”
