Blessing Ibunge in Port Harcourt
Security agencies have been urged to investigate the former Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr George Nwaeke over his recent outburst against the suspended governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.
The call was made yesterday in Port Harcourt, by the people of Etche Ethnic Nationality in state, hometown of the former Head of Service(HoS).
The people, who alleged that the HoS spoke under financial inducement, said lying is not in their culture.
Leaders of the community where Nwaeke hailed from described him as alleged “liar, betrayer and notoriously untrustworthy”, noting that as a result of his character, the former HoS “is usually not invited to meetings of Etche ethnic nationality where crucial issues affecting Etche Ethnic Nationality are discussed due to his unstable character.”
The leaders of Etche disassociated themselves from the “externally influenced” confessions of financial mismanagement and planned militancy attacks on oil facilities he (Nwaeke) levelled against the suspended governor and others.
Nwaeke had in an exclusive interview with Channels TV in Abuja last week accused suspended Governor Fubara of deliberately demolishing the House of Assembly edifice to avoid impeachment, linking the suspended Chief of staff, Dr. Edison Ehie in the crime.
The Etche leaders said, notwithstanding his rise to the position of Head of Rivers State Civil Service, the highest position in the civil service, the Etche Ethnic Nationality did not consider Dr Nwaeke worthy of recognition as a chief, an honour bestowed on her deserving illustrious sons.
“An eloquent testament to Dr Nwaeke’s unstable character is the conflicting account issued by himself and his wife as per his now infamous trip to Abuja. Dr Nwaeke who lied and deceived his wife is unworthy of any iota of credit. The world must treat his theatrics for its mere entertainment and amusement values and nothing more.
“Before his trip to Abuja, Dr Nwaeke had approached the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt for financial assistance in exchange for his loyalty. It is unbecoming that such a highly placed government official known to have valuable assets within and outside Nigeria was more interested in personal financial aggrandizement than honour and integrity.
“His insatiable appetite for financial gain is the only explanation for his baseless allegations against the Governor in order to please his pay masters and thereby ridiculing himself”.
In a statement read by the leader of the group and a former member of the House of Representatives, Ogbonna Nwuke alleged that Nwaeke was coerced to read a badly written script handed over to him by his paymaster in Abuja just to falsely indict the governor.
“Dr Nwaeke was commanded thus: ‘You will read from the text I wrote.’ And he thereafter read from the text that was written for him. This underscores that the so-called press conference by Dr Nwaeke was staged by persons who are desperate to paint our innocent and performing governor and other respected sons of Rivers State in bad light and Dr Nwaeke, being a man lacking in honour and dignity, was a willing tool in their hand.”
The ethnic nationality, however, invites the security agencies to investigate the conducts of Dr. Nwaeke with a view to holding him accountable for peddling falsehood against the Governor of Rivers State and other prominent Rivers sons.
“This will serve as a deterrent to others who may wish to propagate falsehood against innocent persons for financial or other benefits,” they said.
The group, however, while calling on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his decision in the best interest of the State, condemned the “unwarranted imposition” of a State of Emergency in Rivers State, the suspension of the Governor, Deputy Governor and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
