The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Friday declared that the FCT Administration, FCTA, is doing everything possible to protect residents of the capital city.
Wike disclosed this in response to the issues regarding the Rivers Park Estate and the FCT Administration.
Speaking during his monthly press briefing in Abuja, the minister vowed never to succumb to “blackmail”.
Wike also assured that the FCTA under his leadership is “being transformed and the people appreciate what we are doing”.
According to Wike: “What is happening at Rivers Park Estate Lugbe is the FCT doing everything possible to protect the residents of the FCT.
“One of the problems we had before now, we are locating lands to people. And then what’s the agreement?
“Somebody takes a land for the past 15 years for parks and garden and then you see application for conversion, for comprehensive development.
“And then we said, ‘no, this is not what we expect. And we cannot allow that.’
“And therefore, the ministry said I think we have to control this. No more land to any department.
“You’ve heard about the River Park, there is no business between the FCT and the River park. No business.
“People are just carrying blackmail. The moment you want to do the right thing, blackmail comes in. And for us, we’re not going to be distracted by this kind of thing.”
