Profile of businessman, Daniel Ofori

Daniel Ofori is a Ghanaian business magnate, investor and philanthropist. He is best known as the founder of White Chapel Limited, a pioneer apparel retail outlet which spanned the length and breadth of Ghana.

He is one of the best-known entrepreneurs and pioneers of the retail superstore revolution of the 1980s and 1990s.

Hailing from Juaben in the Ejisu–Juaben Municipality, Daniel was born and raised in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital.

Daniel founded White Chapel Limited at the tender age of 15 years; it went on to become Ghana’s largest apparel superstore chain. Daniel led the company as chairman and CEO until stepping down to pursue his passion in design and create.

Such passion led Daniel to set up Advance Ventures Limited, a structural design and real estate development company, and Dano Engineering, whose products include Dano Air conditioners, among others. Daniel has since nursed Advance Venture Limited into a household name in Ghana, with residential and commercial properties across prime areas, providing retail and industrial space for leading organisations across all sectors and market segments. Daniel led both companies as Chairman and CEO until transitioning into Money & Capital Markets.

His over three (3) decades of experience in the Money & Capital Markets has made Daniel an expert in the field. He is the single largest investor on the Ghana Stock Exchange. His investment portfolio extends beyond the shores of Ghana.

Daniel Ofori is the third-largest shareholder of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB Plc) and Société Générale Ghana (SG Plc), and the fourth-largest of SIC Insurance Company (SIC Plc). His other portfolio includes holdings in Enterprise Group Limited, Standard Chartered Bank, Republic Bank, Camelot Ghana Limited, Fan Milk Limited, Guinness Ghana Limited, among others.

Daniel is noted for his adherence to value investing and for his personal frugality. His investment drive is characterised by an ethical inclination towards the shareholder collective and an intense focus on exponential value creation.

Daniel’s proven entrepreneurial acumen and management tact is often said to be characterised as falling within “founder centrism” – defined by a deference to managers with a founder’s mindset. Such acumen, augmented by his proven knowledge of money and capital markets, have made him a valued expert and consultant in all fields of business.

Daniel is currently the Chairman and CEO of White Chapel Holdings and also serves on the boards of several companies. He occasionally lectures on entrepreneurship and value investing at various business forums and investment clubs.

He is a fellow of the Ghana Chartered Institute of Administration and Management and a life patron of the body. He has extensive training from the Ghana Institute of Languages, the Ghana Stock Exchange, the Ghana Export Marketing Council and the Association of Certified Entrepreneurs.

Later in his career, and since leaving the day-to-day operations of his many businesses, Daniel has pursued a number of philanthropic endeavours, which have garnered him numerous accolades. However, these have been undertaken with no publicity as a matter of choice. Through his private charitable foundation, Daniel provides tremendous support, focused on evangelisation through the construction of modernised Church buildings led by Christian religious denominations, such as the Catholic Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Methodist Church, the Pentecost Church of Ghana, and the Ghana Baptist Convention.

His philanthropic intervention also involves offering assistance to the less privileged in society, as well as augmenting government efforts, including, but not limited to, providing shelter for prisoners.

Daniel Ofori is an ordained Deacon and an Elder of the Ghana Baptist Convention and conferred with the title of “Evangelist Extraordinaire”.
