Germany’s President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has cut sod for the construction of a €5.6 million Centre of Excellence for Green Technology at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI).
The centre is expected to become a hub for innovation, research, and hands-on training in renewable energy and sustainable technology.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said the initiative aligns with government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) transformation agenda under President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset Agenda.”
He noted that the project demonstrates government’s commitment to addressing youth unemployment through skill-based education.
“As part of President Mahama’s Reset Agenda, His Excellency Steinmeier, we are focusing on developing a TVET policy and establishing a TVET fund to support the skills training of young people so they can make meaningful contributions to national development,” the Minister said.
The facility is expected to enhance Ghana’s technical education infrastructure and foster collaboration between Ghanaian and German institutions to drive industrial innovation and sustainability.
President Steinmeier’s visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and Germany in education, technology, and development cooperation.
