Operatives of the Nigeria Police in Nasarawa State have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered firearms during a raid on a criminal hideout in the state.
The operation was carried out by officers of the State Intelligence Department, following credible information that led them to a hideout in Gidan Akuya Village, located in Keana Local Government Area.
Police authorities said the suspects attempted to escape upon sighting the operatives, but officers pursued them, leading to the arrest of a 43-year-old suspect identified as Jibril Yunusa.
According to the Nasarawa State Police Command, a search of the hideout resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine and a locally fabricated rifle.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Ramhan Nansel, the suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation to involvement in several kidnapping operations within Keana and Awe areas of the state.
“The suspect admitted participating in several kidnapping activities within the Keana and Awe axis and has provided useful information that will assist ongoing investigations.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered an intensified manhunt to track down other members of the gang who escaped during the raid.
He also commended the officers involved in the operation for what he described as their professionalism and dedication, while reassuring residents that the command remains committed to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and dismantle the entire criminal network.
