Police nab suspected burglar for stealing valuables worth N7m in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected burglar, identified as Awolesi Precious, for stealing valuables worth over N7m from a lounge within the premises of the Federal University of Agriculture, FUNAAB, in Abeokuta.

The suspect was intercepted by officers of Harmony Division, a station located within the campus while transporting a large Firman generator valued at N1.2m.

The Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Saturday, said he was arrested at about 3:00 am on Wednesday.

According to Odutola, the suspect claimed to have paid N12,500 to a sound engineer to rent the generator when he was apprehended by the officers on midnight patrol.

On further questioning, he confessed to having stolen the generator from Chilbay Entertainment Lounge, where a burglary had taken place previously.

She said, “On January 1, 2025, at about 3:00 am, during a midnight patrol, an individual named Awolesi Precious, a male from the Zoo area, was apprehended while transporting a large Firman generator valued at N1,200,000 along the street.

“When questioned about the generator, he claimed he had rented it from a sound engineer for N12,500 to use at an event planned for later that day.

“In an attempt to mislead the police, Precious provided false information regarding his situation but eventually admitted to stealing the generator from Chilbay Entertainment Lounge, where a burglary had taken place previously.”

Among the various items stolen were four 32-inch televisions and one 50-inch television, assorted wines and liquors valued at N6,000,000, several packs of malts, beverages, energy drinks and a microwave oven.

Odutola added that on searching his (suspect) apartment, all the aforementioned items were discovered, except the televisions.

She stated that investigation was still in progress and that upon its completion, the suspect will face charges in court.
