Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Katsina State have repelled an attack by suspected bandits and rescued kidnapped victims along the Sabuwa–Kaya road.
According to a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident, which occurred on April 9 at about 8:17 p.m., was reported near Unguwar Liman village in Sabuwa Local Government Area.
Security sources told Makama that the attackers, said to be heavily armed, had blocked the road and abducted several travellers before security operatives intervened.
The sources explained that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) quickly mobilised tactical teams to the scene after receiving distress information.
On arrival, the police engaged the bandits in a gunfight, forcing them to withdraw into the forest, with indications that some of them may have sustained gunshot wounds.
“The sources said the police engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat into the forest with possible gunshot injuries,” Makama said.
During the operation, the kidnapped victims were safely rescued and confirmed to be unharmed.
The rescued individuals were identified as Alhaji Sani Kadanya, 50, from Tashar Kadanya village in Birnin Gwari LGA; Basiru Aminu, 27, from Kutaimashi village in Birnin Gwari LGA; Aliyu Musa, 30, from Unguwar Gajere village in Birnin Gwari LGA; Ummi Bello, 20, from Sabuwa LGA; and Abubakar Abdullahi, 35, also from Unguwar Gajere village.
Security sources disclosed that the area has been secured and placed under surveillance as clearance operations continue to track down the fleeing suspects.
“Security sources said the area had been cordoned off for clearance operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing suspects,” Makama noted.
