The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects over an alleged plot to assassinate a traditional ruler in the Eastern Region.
The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation after police uncovered a plan to eliminate the Chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar, scheduled for 17 October 2025 at Akyem-Kwabeng.
According to a police statement dated 12th October 2025, intelligence received on 11 October 2025, led officers to infiltrate the suspects’ network.
During the covert operation, Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GH¢50,000 to undercover operatives to kill the Chief and another woman said to be in line for installation as Queen Mother.
She reportedly directed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, to assist in identifying the intended victims’ residences.
Seth subsequently led officers to the homes of both targets and provided a photograph of the Chief to facilitate the planned attack.
The suspects are said to have promised an additional GH¢50,000 payment upon completion of the crime.
Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned soon.
In a statement signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Eastern South Regional Police Command at Kibi, the police assured the public of their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents, particularly traditional leaders in the region.
