Hot SourceThe Bauchi State Police Command has dismissed reports that the house of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ward Chairman in Ribina West, Toro Local Government Area, was set ablaze by angry youths.
DAILY POST gathered that violence broke out over the relocation of a traditional stool from Garin Koginsallah to another community, prompting protests by irate youths who allegedly torched the PDP ward chairman’s house.
But addressing the incident, Spokesman of the Command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, in a statement urged the public to disregard the reports circulating on social media.
According to him, “On October 26, 2025, a social media user, one Auwal No More, posted that a violent protest occurred in Tallam village, Ribina West, over the alleged imposition of a new District Head whose palace would be located in Gulfada village.”
He said the post also claimed that the protest targeted the PDP ward chairman’s house, accusing him of involvement in the said imposition.
Wakil explained that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, directed the DPO and Area Commander in Toro to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
A patrol team was deployed, and a peace meeting was convened with the Emir of Toro and other traditional leaders to calm the situation.
“At the meeting, the Emir described the report as fake, saying no new district had been created and assuring residents they would be involved in any future traditional appointments,” he added.
Wakil further warned those spreading false information to desist, saying the Command would enforce the Cybercrime Act on anyone found guilty of misinformation.
He confirmed that efforts are ongoing to arrest and prosecute the individual behind the fake story.
When asked about the alleged burning, he said, “No, the PDP chairman’s house was not burnt. That claim is false.”
He assured that the area is now calm and urged residents to go about their normal activities, warning that anyone caught disturbing public peace would face the full wrath of the law.
Residents, however, appealed to authorities to maintain peace and ensure the traditional arrangement remains unchanged.
