Police arrest suspected burglar in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected burglar named David Adediji, for breaking into a home and stealing valuables worth over N200,000 in Okorowepo, Idiroko area of the state.

The suspect, aged 27, allegedly entered the home of a female resident in the community through the window, damaging the iron security bars and struck her on the head with an iron rod.

Confirming the incident to DAILY POST on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect is known for using iron tools to break into homes to steal.

Odutola noted that he carted away with the victim’s Techno Spark phone worth over N150,000, cash of N52,000 and injured her on the back and leg while trying to flee the scene.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the victim reported the incident at about 7:00 pm on Wednesday, and based on the information, the Divisional Police Officer of the Idiroko Division visited the scene and begun investigation leading to his arrest.

According to Odutola, the suspect on interrogation confessed to committing the crime.

She said, “On January 1, 2025, around 7:00 pm, a community member from Okorowepo, who was a victim of a burglary, reported to the station that on December 31, 2024, at approximately 10:00 pm, a man named David Adediji forcibly entered her home through a window, damaging the iron security bars. He struck her on the head with a long iron rod.

“The victim further explained that David forcibly took her Android phone, a Techno Spark worth over one hundred fifty thousand Naira, and searched her room, stealing fifty-two thousand Naira in cash from her bag.

“Police detectives from Idiroko visited the scene of the incident. An immediate investigation has been initiated, and items such as an iron rod and a plank have been collected as evidence from the crime scene.

“David Adediji, a 27-year-old male, has been arrested in connection with the crime and has confessed to his involvement.”

Odutola noted that preliminary investigation has commenced for further information and likely prosecution.
