Osun court sentences two for theft, burglary

A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Friday, sentenced two persons, Sikiru Raheem and Azeezat Afeez to seven and two year prison term separately for theft and burglary.

The duo were arraigned before Magistrate M. A. Olatunji and charged under Sections 390(9), 249 and 412 of the Criminal Code of Osun State.

They were charged for breaching the peace and burglary according to Oyedele Akintayo, the Prosecuting Counsel who stood in for the Attorney General of Osun State.

Delivering the judgment, Magistrate Olatunji maintained that the culprits violated the laws of the state and were therefore subjected to punishments as simulated by the Criminal Code.

Reacting, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, revealed that the suspects were apprehended in different locations in Osogbo after the reports of their criminal activities were received.

Omoyele stated that the timely intervention of the Amotekun personnel led to the immediate capture of the suspects.

The Osun Amotekun boss said, “The first suspect, Sikiru Raheem, a 30-year-old male, was arrested for the theft of a Ford Jeep worth N7,000,000 (Seven Million Naira). The vehicle, belonging to one Olukokun Morayo, was stolen from the Oke-Onitea area of Osogbo.

“Following a thorough investigation, Sikiru Raheem confessed to stealing the vehicle with the intent to sell it for N1.5 million. He also admitted that this was not his first offense of such nature.

“The second suspect, Azeez Afeez, aged 20, was arrested on February 23, 2025, for committing burglary. Azeez stole several items from a residence, including a standing fan, a torchlight, TV cables, solar radio, a bag of bulbs, wires, MP3 player, and two mobile phones—an MPs and an Itel A33.

“The total value of the stolen items was estimated at N420,000, with the properties belonging to two different victims, Oyagbile Bose and Mrs. Adebisi Grace. During the investigation, Azeez confessed that he stole the items to sell them and raise money for personal gain, and he also admitted that this was not his first crime.”

The Osun Amotekun Corps urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly, as they continue their commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.

He said, “the prosecution of these offenders serves as a deterrent to others involved in criminal activities, reaffirming the Corps’ dedication to ensuring a safer environment for all residents of Osun State.”
