OSP detains two Ex-GRA gurus over SML deal

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has detained two former high-ranking officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in connection with ongoing investigations into suspected corruption and related offences surrounding the controversial Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contract.

The officials, Dr Amiishaddai Owusu-Amoah, a former Commissioner-General of the GRA, and Isaac Crentsil, a former Commissioner of the Customs Division, were taken into custody on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

While details remain scant, the detentions are believed to be linked to a wider probe into the SML agreement, a deal in which former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was previously declared wanted by the OSP for questioning.

Sources close to the investigation suggest the three former officials are being questioned over their respective roles in the SML contract’s approval, implementation, or oversight, which has been at the centre of allegations of financial impropriety and lack of due process.

The SML deal, aimed at revenue assurance in the downstream petroleum and gold export sectors, has attracted intense public and parliamentary scrutiny following revelations of opaque procurement processes and alleged unauthorised payments.

The OSP is yet to release a formal statement regarding the detentions or provide further details on charges, if any.

This story is developing.
