Opposition Leaders Will Provide Direction For Nigeria – Ikenga

Fiery lawmaker, Ikenga Ugochinyere Imo has fired a warning that despite the hurdles confronting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), opposition leaders have resolved to put away their differences, unite, and provide direction for the country.

Ikenga, who represents Ideato federal constituency at the House of Representatives, made the disclosure while addressing his constituents in Akokwa, Ideato North local government area of Imo State.
He said “We will fight for the soul of the party, Nigeria has had enough, all forces are mobilising. Opposition leaders are meeting at different levels. PDP members should remain strong and resolute.

“I salute the governors who boycotted the meeting in Jos. I have said it, if you want to join APC, go and join them, don’t destroy the PDP”. Already, there are over 15 ex-parte to keep the party down but we will not allow them”.

He chided some PDP leaders who he described as double faced and working hard to destabilise the party and commended the governors who shunned the meeting in Jos, Plateau state where plans were perfected to keep the party struggling.

According to him, the continued stay of Damagum as the acting national chairman of the PDP was orchestrated by the ruling party.

Ikenga said “It is very shameful that a party founded in 1998 by the founding fathers like Chief Alex Ekwueme, and others, is what these guys are playing with like akara (bean cakes) that Damagun and Samuel Anyanwu are playing with. Members of the party did not go this low that they have.

“The new plan is to ensure that PDP NEC to choose the next chairman from north-west is frustrated so that Damagum continues and then force a weak presidential candidate on the party. One begins to wonder for how long they will postpone the meeting, it’s been a year and eight months and it’s been one excuse to the other”.

On the current issue over the 27 Rivers state lawmakers, Ikenga said they remained removed because they left the party before the crisis that had engulfed the state, saying the remaining lawmakers forms a quorum.

“Let me ask, if you seize the allocation to Rivers, can you guarantee security and payment of salaries to teachers and everyone. They want to make the place fail so that they can impeach the governor. But let me tell you, Fubara will contest and he will win in 2027”.

The lawmaker however commended the judiciary for their efforts and appealed to the chief justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-ekun and her colleagues to ensure the right thing is done.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that since assumption of office as a lawmaker, he had built 20 boreholes for communities, refurbished five schools, provided 700 solar street lights and donated over ₦30 million to his constituents
