NPP’s Acheampong demands pre-2028 “Meet the Aspirant” forums

A leading youth voice in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Isaac Acheampong, is rallying the party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, to roll out a “Meet the Aspirant” series ahead of the 2028 elections to directly engage the youth wing with the party’s presidential hopefuls.

In an open letter, Acheampong stressed the urgency of involving the party’s young base in serious political dialogue, especially now that the NPP is in opposition. He warned that youth disillusionment has historically contributed to electoral defeats and said early engagement could reinvigorate grassroots support.

“Disenchantment among the youth is a real threat. Aspirants must come clean about what they’re offering beyond slogans,” Acheampong stated.

He proposed that each aspirant face the youth—region by region—meeting with constituency youth organisers, deputies, and TESCON leaders to outline:

  • Strategic roles youth groups will play in the 2028 campaign;
  • Concrete post-election benefits for party youth—not just vague promises;
  • Long-term, youth-focused national policies.

While recognising the NPP’s current focus on the Akwatia by-election set for September 2, Acheampong insists that time is of the essence. With presidential primaries fast approaching on January 31, 2026, he believes youth mobilisation should begin in earnest by the end of the year.

“Let’s not wait for the campaign season to ask where the youth are. Let’s get to work now,” he urged.

Signed as “Your brother, friend, and successor hopeful,” Acheampong’s letter echoes a call to galvanise the party’s future foot soldiers to help “rescue Ghana from the inept Mahama administration” and deliver victory in 2028.
