NPA holds maiden National LPG Forum

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on Thursday, 27th November 2025, held its maiden National LPG Forum at the Authority’s head office in Accra.

The event, the first of its kind, brought together industry players, representatives of CSOs, and other stakeholders within Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector.

In his welcome address, the Chief Executive of NPA, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., stated that the forum was designed to provide an important platform for the regulator, its partner agencies, and stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue on the current state and future prospects of the LPG industry.

He also used the opportunity to disclose that the Authority is developing a framework to disburse the cylinder investment margin fund to the bottling plants and the cylinder manufacturing companies to ease their financial pressure, assuring stakeholders of greater transparency and accountability in the process.

On LPG storage, the NPA Boss announced that: “with the support of some private sector players, in the next one or two months, we should have another 6000 metric-tonne LPG storage facility that petroleum warehousing is putting together to help address persistent storage challenges in the industry.”

Delivering the keynote address, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Mr. Richard Guam-Mensah, underscored the critical role of stakeholder engagement in achieving national energy objectives.

He reiterated Ghana’s target of attaining at least 50% LPG penetration by 2030, in line with the National LPG Promotion Policy introduced in 2017, which gave rise to the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) as the main vehicle for achieving this goal.

He emphasized that all stakeholders share a common objective—to expand LPG usage in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner. He urged participants to let this shared vision guide their deliberations to ensure the development of practical and sustainable solutions for the sector.

Held under the theme “One Industry, One Vision: A Collaborative Approach to LPG Sector Transformation,” the forum featured several speakers, including the CEO of COMAC, Dr. Riverson Oppong, who commended the NPA’s leadership for its commitment to collaboration, transparency, and stakeholder inclusiveness.

A panel discussion on “Ghana’s LPG Journey: Celebrating Progress and Recognizing Challenges” was also convened, with panelists comprising Gabriel Kumi (Chairman, COMAC), Saeed Ahmed Lakho (Country Head, Matrix Gas), and Michael Yevu (Regional Business Development Manager, Puma Energy).

The session was moderated by Ing. Denis Nii-Komiete Amui, Head of Operations at GOIL, and allowed participants to contribute meaningfully to the national dialogue on LPG development.
