NPA Chief pledges stronger action against fuel smuggling

The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, has undertaken a working visit to the Western Naval Command and fuel smuggling hotspots in the Western Region, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration in curbing illicit fuel activities along Ghana’s coastline.

Mr Tameklo, toured key operational points, inspected enforcement measures, and reiterated the Authority’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the petroleum downstream sector.

He commended the dedication of security personnel and pledged the NPA’s continued support to ensure a safe, transparent and well-regulated petroleum market.

In a related development, the NPA Chief Executive also met with members of the Western Regional Tanker Drivers Union to discuss concerns over the zonalisation policy and to reinforce cooperation within the petroleum transport sector.

Union members outlined the challenges posed by the current zonalisation arrangement, particularly its effect on their operations, and raised additional concerns over pay structures and welfare conditions.

Responding to these issues, Mr Tameklo assured the drivers that their grievances are being addressed.

He disclosed that the NPA is developing a comprehensive framework to improve drivers’ remuneration and to establish a fair and sustainable compensation system across the sector.

He further stressed the Authority’s commitment to engaging all stakeholders in order to maintain a safe, efficient and equitable petroleum downstream industry.
