Nine dead, four injured in Jigawa communal clash

No fewer than nine people were confirmed dead and four others injured in a communal clash between villagers and herders at Gululu village, Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

A resident told DAILY POST that the conflict began after suspected Fulani miscreants allegedly broke into a shop in Gululu and stole hibiscus and other provisions.

He said the villagers from Gululu traced the suspects’ footprints to a Fulani settlement in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.

According to him, “upon confronting the settlers, the Fulanis allegedly attacked the villagers using bows and arrows, injuring four people.

“In retaliation, the villagers reportedly mobilized and attacked the settlement, setting houses ablaze in various locations across Miga and Jahun LGAs.”

Jigawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident in a press release.

He said officers from the Miga and Jahun divisions responded promptly to the scene, recovering nine bodies, which were transported to hospitals in Miga and Jahun, where their deaths were confirmed by medical personnel.

He said the State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, along with other senior officers and local leaders, visited the affected areas.

He said a stakeholder meeting was convened, involving key figures such as the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, district heads, vigilantes, and Miyetti Allah representatives.

The meeting focused on promoting peace and discouraging further violence and reprisal attacks.

“Patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” he added.
