Activist lawyer, Madubuachi Idam, on Sunday called for a commission of inquiry to be setup to probe the allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Idam said Akpabio should step aside while the commission carry out its duty, adding that nobody should should use court orders to frustrate the inquiry.

He made the remark while commending the response of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti’s husband, Emmanuel Uduaghan, to the ongoing saga with Akpabio.

Natasha had accused Akpabio of making sexual advances at her in the presence of her husband.

She claimed that her refusal led to Akpabio intimidating and denying her some of her privileges in the Senate.

Aggrieved, Akpabio’s wife accused Natasha of lying while wondering if Uduaghan was aware of such claims before she went public with them.

Speaking on the issue, Uduaghan affirmed that Akpabio made several sexual overtures at his wife in his presence.

Commenting, Idam wondered how Natasha’s husband could retain his composure and respect for somebody who wanted to sleep with his wife.

In a statement he issued, Idam said: “I read Senator Natasha husband’s interview on the internet this morning with rapt attention and total admiration of aura with which the traditional ruler addressed the matter. I was truck to find that a point can be made even in the heat of anger without been disrespectful.

“How do you retain your composure and tacit respect to and alleged horny Senate President who to your foreknowledge craves to satisfy his sexual urge in-between the legs of your wife?

“God has not created many of such class of men!

“However, as a concerned bystander, I saw a helpless country in the midst of his statement crawling and begging for help. I doubted why a man at that level of the Senate President should allow his urge to influence his reasoning over National issues like frustrating a Bill concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Mill that will benefit the masses just because his sexual desires were yet to be met.

“I’m wondering how many other female senators have succumbed or willing to yield to such advances simply to have their motions heard or Bills passed in the Senate and how many will be saved if this matter is given the best attention.

“A commission of inquiry has to be set up to investigate this allegations and while that is going on, the Senate President has to step aside in order to allow a discreet investigation of the matter, and no one must shop or procure a court order to frustrate the investigation. Nigeria is on her kneels.”
