As part of activities to mark the Homowo celebration, Mikesh Global, a leading Ghanaian hair care company, has provided free hair styling services to residents of Akoto Lante and its environs in the Gamashie area of the Greater Accra region.

The event, which drew a large crowd of enthusiastic beneficiaries, showcased the company’s commitment to giving back to the community. 

Mikesh Global’s team of skilled hairstylists provided beneficiaries with complimentary services, including hair braiding, dreadlocks, and twisting of natural hair, all free of charge.

The beneficiaries, mostly women and children, were thrilled with the opportunity to receive professional hair styling services without having to incur any costs. 

The event was also an opportunity for Mikesh Global to showcase its expertise in hair care and styling, as well as to promote its products and services.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Executive Officer of Mikesh Global, Nii Klortia Ayikwei Tutu Alagmle I, said the event was designed to promote creativity, art, and self-expression, while also providing a platform for the community to come together and socialize.

He emphasized the potential of dreadlocks and natural hair care as a lucrative career path, offering individuals the opportunity to earn a decent living.

Nii Klortia Ayikwei Tutu Alagmle I, noted that the stigma associated with dreadlocks has largely been broken. 

“Thirty-seven years ago, dreadlocks were stigmatized, but we’ve worked hard to change that narrative. Now, people wear dreadlocks with pride, and it’s grown into a profession, offering many the opportunity to earn a living.” He said.

The Mikesh Global CEO also underscored the importance of recognizing alternative skills and not just traditional academic qualifications. 

“Not everyone with certificates or a PhD finds success in life. Many of our academy graduates are university graduates who couldn’t find jobs, but are now earning a decent living through dreadlocks and natural hair care.” Nii noted.

Nii Klortia Ayikwei Tutu Alagmle I, who also serves as the Chief of Tabora in the Ga Central Municipal District, encouraged the government to take notice of the potential of the industry and provide support for those interested in pursuing a career in dreadlocks and natural hair care. 

“This is an international skill, not just valuable in Ghana, but globally, our company is open to everyone, without limitations, and we’re committed to providing opportunities for people to build a career in this field.” Nii Klortia Ayikwei Tutu Alagmle I, stated.

Representing Makeup Ghana, the leading advocacy organisation for Ghana’s beauty and wellness sector, Rebecca Donkor, commended Mikesh Global for its outstanding contributions to the industry.

She noted that Makeup Ghana, organisers of the annual Ghana Beauty Awards, has in the past honoured Mikesh Global as one of its esteemed award recipients. 

Over the years, she said, the company has made remarkable progress, particularly in tackling hair loss and transforming lives.

Madam Donkor described the day’s initiative as a clear demonstration of Mikesh Global’s commitment, with its impact visibly felt in the community. 

“Their work goes beyond beauty; they are creating jobs, reducing unemployment, and giving the youth hope and opportunities,” she said, adding that their efforts deserve high commendation.

She expressed the hope that God would continue to bless and equip the company to expand its life-changing initiatives for the benefit of communities and the nation as a whole.

According to Madam Donkor, trainees who acquire skills through Mikesh Global’s programmes often go on to establish their own businesses, employ others, and collectively contribute to reducing Ghana’s unemployment rate, a sustainable impact worthy of celebration.

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting that it not only enhanced their appearance but also promoted self-confidence and appreciation for natural hair.  

Residents and beneficiaries were also entertained with dancing, acrobats, fabric displays, and musical performances by various musicians.
