Mahama to launch $1.5bn Gomoa Central Industrial Park

President John Dramani Mahama will tomorrow, Tuesday, 21 October 2025, officially launch the $1.5 billion Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GCSEZ) in the Central Region, set to become Africa’s largest Free Zones Industrial Park.

The project covers 21,000 acres in the Gomoa Central District and is designed to create more than 60,000 jobs while positioning Ghana as a major industrial base for manufacturing, agro-processing, logistics and export services within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The Ghana Free Zones Authority, in collaboration with the AfCFTA Secretariat, is overseeing the development as part of the government’s 24-Hour Economy Agenda, an initiative focused on continuous production and expanded export capacity.

A pre-launch investment session is being held today at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, where stakeholders are being briefed on infrastructure layouts, energy systems and long-term trade incentives linked to the zone.

Among those attending the launch are: Alban S.K. Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament; Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy; Dr Sam Jonah, Executive Chairman of Jonah Capital; Krobo Edusei Jnr., Executive Chairman of Safebond Africa Investment Group.

Others include, Kwame Asare Obeng, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central; Albert Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Associatio.

Speaking ahead of the event, Kwame Asare Obeng, MP for the area, described the park as a turning point in economic planning.

“This is a complete ecosystem where sustainability and profitability thrive together,” he said.

He stated that the renewable energy infrastructure built into the zone would deliver “some of the lowest operational costs in the region,” with direct access to multiple ports and the Lagos–Abidjan Corridor.

The industrial enclave is structured to anchor Ghana’s shift from an import-led economy to a production and export-driven system, supported by integrated road networks, utilities, warehousing and digital connectivity to enable large-scale commercial operations.

Japan has given regulatory approval for an over-the-counter contraceptive pill, its manufacturer said on Monday, the first time the socially conservative country has greenlighted so-called “morning-after” medication without a prescription.
