President John Dramani Mahama has paid glowing tribute to former United States Vice President Dick Cheney, describing him as an “outstanding statesman and a distinguished public servant.”
Mr. Cheney, who served as Vice President under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009, passed away on 3 November at the age of 84.
In a tribute signed on behalf of the Government and People of Ghana by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Mr Emmanuel Victor Smith, President Mahama said the United States had lost “a remarkable leader who played a pivotal role in key moments of modern history that continue to shape global affairs.”
President Mahama extended Ghana’s deepest condolences to the Cheney family and the American people, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership and cooperation between the two nations.
He further noted that Mr Cheney’s legacy of service and leadership would be remembered with “great respect and admiration.”
