Hot SourcePresident John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York at the helm of a formidable Ghanaian delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The Assembly opens on Tuesday, 23 September, and will draw heads of state, policymakers, and global development leaders from around the world.
According to an official statement from the Presidency Communications Directorate, President Mahama is scheduled to deliver his address to the General Assembly on Thursday, 25 September 2025.
His speech is expected to touch on key global and African priorities, including financial reforms and sustainable development.
The President will also spearhead two high-level side events in his capacity as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions. These engagements are set to highlight Africa’s evolving economic architecture and the need for robust financial frameworks to accelerate continental growth.
In addition, Mahama’s itinerary is packed with crucial bilateral meetings, including talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other world leaders, such as the President of the Rockefeller Foundation.
The President will further engage with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and make a historic visit to the NASDAQ stock exchange, where he is expected to ring the closing bell—an iconic gesture symbolising Ghana’s growing appeal to international investors.
Accompanying the President is First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, who will participate in key events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). She is slated to deliver the keynote address at a World Vision International prayer service dedicated to the welfare of the world’s children.
The Ghanaian delegation reflects a cross-section of government’s top brass and economic strategists. It includes Chief of Staff Julius Debrah; Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama; Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari; Deputy Chief of Staff (Finance and Administration) and Technical Adviser to the First Lady, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo; Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu; Minister for Trade Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare; and Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotions Centre Simon Madjie.
The delegation is expected to return to Ghana on 30 September 2025.
