Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to decentralise the units for the ongoing continuous voters’ registration, saying that it could address the low registration figures in some states.

The Council has also urged the National and the State Orientation Agencies to step up sensitization in Abia.

NUJ gave the advice through a Communique released in Umuahia after its monthly Congress.

The Communique, which was signed by Chidi Asonye, Chairman and Iyke Onuegbu, Secretary, urged the Abia State government to intensify efforts in curbing insecurity, even as it urged Abia traditional rulers to ensure security and peace in their communities.

Abia NUJ frowned at the incessant destruction of farm lands and products in some Abia communities by cattle and condemned the embarrassing defecations on the streets of Umuahia.

The journalists while reminding the Abia State government and security agencies of the need to implement anti-open grazing laws in the State, told herdsmen to desist from open grazing.

The Congress commended Governor Alex Otti, for his swift action in constructing speed-breakers along Ubani Road to tackle regular accidents along the road.

The Abia NUJ, which reiterated that the ban on publicity it placed on the Chairman of Umuahia North LGA, Smart Ihuoma had not been lifted, vowed to sanction any journalist who disobeyed the resolution.
