A solemn state funeral is underway at the Black Star Square in Accra for six of the eight people who lost their lives in the August 6 Ghana Air Force helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
The inter-denominational service, attended by President John Dramani Mahama, senior government officials, security chiefs, political leaders, and hundreds of mourners, is honouring Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, NDC Vice Chair Dr Samuel Sarpong, Acting Deputy NADMO Director Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
The victims were onboard an Air Force Harbin Z-9 EH helicopter when it crashed near Adansi while en route to Obuasi on an anti-illegal mining operation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
