A fire incident on Monday razed an open yard used for metal scrap recycling at No. 15, Pipeline Road, off Ekoro Road, Abule Egba area of Lagos State.
While no casualties were recorded, the blaze destroyed several valuables.
One adult woman reportedly went into shock during the incident but was swiftly treated and stabilised by emergency responders at the scene.
Confirming the development, the Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, said the fire broke out at about 1:00 p.m.
She explained that emergency crews from the Agege and Abesan Fire Stations were immediately dispatched after the service received a distress call.
“Initial investigations revealed that the fire originated from an open space being used for local recycling activities,” Adeseye stated.
She noted that the inferno spread beyond the recycling site, affecting a nearby residential bungalow and a mini church within the area.
“One adult female suffered shock and was promptly attended to by emergency responders. No loss of life was recorded,” she added.
The fire was eventually contained, preventing further damage, while investigations were launched to ascertain the exact cause of the outbreak.
Adeseye reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents and operators of informal industrial facilities to adhere strictly to fire safety guidelines to avert similar incidents in the future.
