The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the 2026 electronic registration and payment exercise for the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, for all public and private junior secondary schools in the state.
The exercise, which is being coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board, LSEB, is scheduled to run from Monday, January 26 to Friday, March 27, 2026.
It is aimed at fully digitising the registration process, eliminating physical visits to the board’s office by school administrators, while enhancing efficiency, transparency and accountability.
Details of the initiative were made public in a statement shared on the state government’s official X platform on Tuesday.
“The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, has commenced the 2026 BECE e-registration and payment exercise, which will run from January 26 to March 27, 2026,” the statement said.
The government explained that the initiative is part of its broader drive to leverage technology to modernise examination administration and streamline procedures for schools.
Providing further clarification, the Registrar of the LSEB, Mr Adebayo Orunsolu, urged schools to ensure the use of their newly issued School Codes when processing registrations.
He stated that public junior secondary schools are required to download the Offline Data Capturing Application from bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng to complete their submissions.
According to him, approved private junior secondary schools, schools operating with special permission, and continuing education centres are expected to access the board’s portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng to make payments, register candidates and generate their login details.
Orunsolu added that approved private schools and public continuing education centres are to pay a registration fee of N10,000 per candidate, while private schools with special permission and private continuing education centres are required to pay N15,000 per candidate.
He also advised schools presenting candidates with special needs, including those with visual impairments or albinism, to notify the board ahead of time to enable adequate arrangements before the examination begins.
The board warned that late registration could attract penalties, noting that further guidelines, where necessary, would be communicated to schools through zonal officers to ensure full compliance.
