Hot SourceAdekimi Ojo, Police Commissioner for Kwara State, has issued a strong warning to senior police operatives on professional misconduct.
At a meeting with senior police officers of the state police command in Ilorin on Friday, the Commissioner conveyed the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, warning against misconduct by police operatives.
Adekimi, who addressed Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, DPOs, and Tactical Commanders on the Inspector-General’s directives, emphasised professionalism and respect for human rights.
He made it clear that “extortion, harassment, human rights abuses, and any form of misconduct will no longer be tolerated.”
The Commissioner of Police asserted that “officers who interfere in purely civil cases without criminal elements, unlawfully search citizens’ phones, or maliciously labelling the youth as ‘Yahoo boys’ or internet fraudsters, are committing grave offences that will attract the most severe disciplinary sanctions.”
Adekimi declared that indiscriminate phone searches on the road are banned, except strictly in cases where such devices are confirmed exhibits in ongoing investigations.
He further warned officers to desist from such illegal practices, and reassured members of the public, particularly students and young people who have been unfairly targeted in the past, that the command under his watch will protect their dignity and rights as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He urged the youths to remain law-abiding and promised that the era of intimidation and wrongful profiling is over in Kwara State.
He announced that enforcement of tinted glass permits will begin on October 2, 2025, while offenders with fake, invalid, or no permits will be charged to court within 24 hours.
Adekimi advised the public to carry the original copy of their tinted permits at all times and to report any cases of extortion arising from the enforcement of tinted permits to the designated channels for complaints.
