“It’s abysmal”: Akufo-Addo tears into Mahama, urges NPP to close ranks for 2028

Former president Nana Akufo-Addo has launched a sharp attack on John Dramani Mahama’s administration, describing its performance as “abysmal” while calling on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stay united as it eyes a return to power in 2028.

Addressing party faithful at the commissioning of a new NPP constituency office in Bantama, Kumasi, Akufo-Addo said the party’s record in office will be the yardstick for a winning campaign.

“You are all aware of what has been happening in the past months [under the Mahama government]. It has been abysmal,” Akufo-Addo said.

He stressed that the achievements of past NPP administrations must be front and centre in the push for victory.

“The unblemished record of the NPP during my time and under President Kufuor should not be forgotten. That record will be the basis of our campaign to reclaim power in 2028,” he said.

Akufo-Addo’s remarks come as internal party strategists weigh how best to rebuild momentum after the NPP’s electoral defeat. His call for unity signals a fresh effort to rally the base around the party’s legacy as it gears up for a high-stakes showdown three years from now.
