Ipee  Calls on Kwara Gov to Caution Offa over Land Encroachment

The Ipee community in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State has called on the state Governor, AbdulRahman  AbduRasaq, to caution the Offa community, which they said has laid claims to a land at Ile Poro that belongs to them.

Ipee community said Offa is falsely laying claim to the land, which belongs to some family compounds in Offa.

The community warned that the governor’s urgent intervention would lead to avoidance of chaos between the two communities.

It would be recalled that the proposed siting of a Federal Government Housing Estate in Offa was approved with the location for the project at Ile Poro in the Egunkara area but the Ipee community said the location site falls into its territory.

Ipee community described the claims by Offa that Ile Poro belongs to it as “fabricated, unfounded and has no merit, premised on deliberate misrepresentation, misunderstanding of the court judgment referred to in the Offa Descendants Union bulletin.”

The Ipee community noted that the land at Ile Poro has an age-long history associated with and cherished by Ipee people.

In a statement issued and made available to journalists by Ibrahim Toyin, the national public relations officer, Ipee Progressive Union (IPU), he frowned at the land encroachment at Poro, saying that the said land does not belong to Offa community.

The Ipee Progressive Union emphasised that the approved location for the project in Ile Poro in the Egunkara area which Offa Descendants Union (ODU) claimed and which has now been officially designated for the housing estate project does not in any way belong to Offa.

Ipee community has, however, enjoined Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq to call the Offa Descendants’ Union (ODU), under the leadership of Dr. Muideen Azeez Olaniyi Salako, to order, urging them to look for another area for the proposed siting of a Federal Government Housing Estate in Offa in the interest of peace and tranquility.

The Ipee community said in the statement: “Attention of Ipee Progressive Union (IPU) under the leadership of Mr. Simeon Ayodele Ogunsola has been drawn to a bulletin recently issued by Offa Descendants ‘ Union claiming the ownership of Ile Poro in the axis of Ori-Ota, Ipee, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

“Without prejudice to all land cases in that axis, the IPU wishes to clarify that Ile Poro has always been and remains an integral part of the Ipee community. The claims made by the ODU regarding ownership are in our view unfounded.

“As we congratulate the good people of Offa community for securing a Federal Government’s Housing Estate, it is our sincere advice that they site the project in area within their community land without encroaching on Ipee land to maintain the existing peace, and harmony in the two communities.

“We wish to emphasize that the families cited in the ODU bulletin have no historical claim to the land, having only been granted land for agricultural purposes by Ipee people as found in the court judgment referred to in the bulletin.”

    FG Flags off Landmark Agro-value Chain Initiative to Empower 10m Women

    In a bold move to address long-standing inequalities in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has launched a national capacity-building workshop aimed at empowering women across the agro-value chain.

    The event, organised in collaboration with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), marks a significant milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media & Publicity to the Minister, Mr Jonathan Eze, the minister noted that the three-day program (27–29 August 2025) would feature practical training on greenhouse farming, homestead gardening, post-harvest storage, financial literacy, and agribusiness.

    Speaking at the opening ceremony in Abuja, Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim described the workshop as “a turning point” in Nigeria’s journey toward gender equity in agriculture.

    She emphasized that the time had come to intentionally dismantle the systemic barriers that continue to limit women’s potential, despite their overwhelming contribution to the sector.

    “Women make up 70% of Nigeria’s agricultural workforce and produce 80% of our total agro-output. Yet, they earn 30% less, and only 10% own farmland or have access to agricultural financing,” the Minister said. “This exclusion may not always be deliberate, but it is real—and it ends now.”

    Central to this shift is the Women Agro Value Expansion (WAVE) Initiative, a flagship programme aimed at empowering 10 million women across the agricultural value chain. The initiative seeks to equip women with the skills, resources, and support necessary to thrive as entrepreneurs and key players in national food systems.

    “Under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, women are no longer seen as passive beneficiaries. They are recognized as primary drivers of national transformation,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim declared.

    The workshop also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry and the OIC, solidifying their commitment to a shared vision for women’s empowerment.

    The Minister commended the OIC for its proactive response to Nigeria’s call to action, praising the partnership as one that aligns with global conventions on gender equality and sustainable development.

    Special recognition was given to the Mutual Commitment Company (MCC), a key private sector partner in the WAVE Consortium, for its unwavering support. “Your collaboration is a blueprint for others,” said the Minister.

    As Nigeria marks 30 years since the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Beijing Platform for Action, Sulaiman-Ibrahim urged women to rise to the occasion.

    “To all Nigerian women, seize the opportunities this administration is creating,” she said. “The policies are being reformed, the support systems are growing—but the real transformation lies in your hands.”

    The Minister concluded by acknowledging the WAVE team for their dedication to making the programme impactful.

    She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring women are not just included in agriculture but positioned as leaders and innovators in Nigeria’s agri-food systems.

    “Your success is Nigeria’s success,” she said.The event signals a new chapter for women in agriculture—one where inclusion, investment, and innovation are no longer optional, but essential.

    On the part of OIC, Assistant Secretary-General, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, affirmed the Organization’s commitment to working hand in hand with Nigeria to advance women’s empowerment and food security across the Muslim world.

    Rooted in the OIC Charter and the Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW), this initiative reflects the strong partnership between Nigeria and the OIC to empower women, enhance food security, and promote inclusive economic growth across the Muslim world.

    Speaking on the sidelines of the training, Chairman of the Women’s Agro Value Expansion (WAVE), Mr. Shittu Kabir, described the workshop as a game-changer. He said it would empower women to adopt modern techniques, build profitable ventures, and establish sustainable value chains from farm to market.

    “This is about transforming agriculture into a pathway for women’s economic independence,” he stressed.

    For participants like Mrs. Dinatu Adiza Sani from Abuja Municipal Area Council, the training was both timely and eye-opening.

    “I have been farming ginger and groundnuts since childhood, but I only sell them raw without processing or packaging. This workshop is teaching me how to add value and earn more,” she said, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Women Affairs for prioritising rural women farmers.

    Foundation Empowers 150 Indigent Students With Scholarship on Health Education in Kwara

    A non governmental organisation, The Ali Ahmad Foundation (TAAF), based in Kwara state has empowered over 150 indigent students of the state with scholarship award on health education as part of efforts to bring health care delivery to the doorsteps of the rural populace in the state.

    Speaking in Ilorin during the presentation of letters of admissions to the affected students, the executive director of the foundation, Mr. Sarafadeen AbdulRaheem, said, “the current health challenges facing the people of the state and Nigerians as a whole needs urgent action so as to make life meaningful for the teeming masses of the country”.

    He said, “Among the health courses the beneficiaries would be trained includes, environmental Health Technology, Orthopedic and Plaster Cast Technology, Public Health Technology, Dispensing Opticianry Technology and Health Information Management.

    Others are, Pharmaceutical Technician, Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW), Public Health Technician and Health Assistant Medical.

    AbdulRaheem added that, the foundation has collaborated with one of the frontlines College of Health Technology in the country so as to give the affected beneficiaries a thorough training on the affected courses on the health development.

    He opined that, “The scholarships will cover 80 per cent of the tuition fees for qualified recipients across a wide range of fully accredited health-related programs in the college.

    He noted that the training would take between six months and one year so as to equip them with the thorough rudiments of health development for the overall benefits of the people of the state.

    AbdulRaheem noted that, this bold step taken by the foundation would bring transformative initiative that would bridge the gap between quality education and Nigeria’s increasing healthcare demands.

    He also said that, it would also. build meaningful careers in the health sector for the affected beneficiaries and this would bring multiple advantages for the provision of good healthcare delivery to the doorsteps of rural populace of the state.

    He emphasised that the Foundation’s Founder and a renowned advocate for education, Prof Ali Ahmad, had reaffirmed his commitment to empowering young individuals through access to health education and quality education to the teeming masses of the state.

    “Professor Ali Ahmad fondly called “Ali Dodo” was once a beneficiary of a scholarship and remains dedicated to supporting the less privileged.

    “Education transformed the life of our principal, and he desires others to have that same opportunity—particularly in the health sector, where every trained individual can save lives, he said.

    “The Ali Ahmad Foundation is dedicated to sustainable development through education and health-oriented interventions, operating under the vision. Education is Health. Health is Wealth. The Future is Now

    “TAAF continues to champion equity, opportunity, and human capital development in Nigeria, guided by the belief that When we empower minds with knowledge, we equip hands to heal”, he maintained.

    Earlier, the Registrar of the College, Mr. Taiwo Adewale Aderibigbe, applauded the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention in the lives of many families who could not have been able to afford such an opportunity.

    He charged the beneficiaries to remain dedicated and diligent, reminding them that education is both a privilege and a responsibility.

    In his remarks, the founder of the foundation, Professor Ali Ahmad,
    emphasised that education is the greatest legacy one can offer the next generation, and supporting indigent students is a duty he holds them.

    He promised that more interventions would follow in other areas such as vocational training, healthcare support, and community empowerment
