Hot SourceActivist lawyer, Maduabuchi Idam, on Tuesday said the remark by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio that hunger is over in Nigeria is insensitive.
Akpabio had urged Nigerians abroad to return home because there is no more hunger.
However, Idam said the Senate President’s comment was a mockery on Nigerians suffering hardship.
In a statement he issued, Idam said: “His comment that hunger was over, and that Nigerians abroad should return home, is yet another unguarded and insensitive mockery of the majority of citizens who are grappling, pensively, with the harsh realities of survival in the country.
“The Senate President must not keep reminding Nigerians of the obvious — that he is totally disconnected from the realities of everyday life in this country.
“We know he lives miles away from the average Nigerian’s living condition, but that should not be rubbed in our faces.
“Such unguided statements are not only provocative; they are also dehumanizing and humiliating to the sensibilities of the multitude of Nigerians who are facing real-time economic hardship — a direct consequence of poor management of the economy.
“Those whose stomachs are full should not assume they are smarter than others who are hungry.”
