Hot SourceThe Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has delivered a blunt warning to criminal networks nationwide, promising relentless pursuit after a sweeping crackdown that netted suspected armed robbers and left three dead.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Mr Yohuno said the Ghana Police Service will “continue to make life uncomfortable for criminal elements in our society,” pledging an unyielding offensive to safeguard the public.
His comments follow a series of coordinated raids across the Ashanti and Ahafo Regions that led to the arrest of 10 suspects, believed to be behind multiple armed robberies and other violent crimes. Three additional suspects were killed in a gun battle with officers.
“We launched a targeted operation to arrest these criminal elements… These are the hideouts of these criminals. I am delighted to announce that we have successfully dismantled the gun behind all these robberies. So far, we have successfully arrested 10 suspects,” Mr Yohuno said, adding that a manhunt was under way for accomplices still at large.
The Inspector General detailed a haul of 14 weapons, including AK-47 rifles, pump-action and single-barrel shotguns, pistols, ammunition, vehicles and mobile phones. He praised the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and intelligence officers for their “critical roles” and thanked the public for supplying tip-offs that led to the breakthrough.
Mr Yohuno urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, promising rewards for credible information. “We will not stop until we get them arrested,” he stressed, underscoring his determination to keep the momentum against violent crime.
Management of the police board has approved a series of promotions, three chief inspectors to the Police Academy, three inspectors elevated to chief inspector, two sergeants to inspector, one corporal to sergeant and three constables promoted to corporal.
