Hot SourceThe Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has shut down eighteen health centres including the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Clinic (KMA) for operating without valid licenses.
A two-day compliance inspection conducted by HeFRA in the Ashanti Region revealed that 18 out of 20 health facilities inspected were either unlicensed or failed to meet the required operational standards.
These facilities include, diagnostic centres, maternity homes, dental clinics, physiotherapy and eye care centres.
Mr. Agyemang Badu, Director of Compliance and Enforcement at HeFRA, said the agency’s core mandate is to ensure that both private and public health facilities operate in a safe and conducive environment while providing quality care, equipment, and adequate staffing.
He added that the exercise will continue nationwide to regulate enforcement, and warned that any health facility operating without a license will be shut down and sanctioned.
Established in 2011, HeFRA regulates and monitors healthcare facilities across Ghana to ensure patient safety and quality of care.
